Nets head south to Orlando

Dec 29, 2011 - 3:48 PM (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets kick off a three-game road trip in Central Florida Thursday, hoping to halt a seven-game skid to the Orlando Magic.

The Nets were trounced in their home opener on Tuesday when six Hawks scored in double figures as Atlanta destroyed a sluggish New Jersey club, 106-70.

Rookie MarShon Brooks netted 17 points on the second night of a back-to-back for the Nets, who recovered from a 21-point deficit on Monday to beat the Wizards but didn't have the legs for a repeat performance.

Deron Williams had 10 points on 3-for-11 shooting and committed six of New Jersey's 18 turnovers. Kris Humphries, coming off a 21-point, 16-rebound performance in the Nets' opener, had 11 and six on Tuesday.

"We came out and put up a stinker," Williams said. "We have a lot of work to do and not a lot of time to do it. We're learning on the fly."

New Jersey will finish its early season trek with visits to Atlanta and Cleveland.

Orlando, meanwhile, evened its record at 1-1 on Monday when J.J. Redick scored 20 points, including an acrobatic layup in between two defenders that sparked a key third quarter run, to help lead the Magic to a 104-95 win over the Rockets at Amway Center.

Dwight Howard scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots while Hedo Turkoglu netted 23 points for Orlando, which rebounded from a loss in Oklahoma City on Sunday.

"It was a great overall win," Howard said. "We still have to continue to get better, and we will."

The Magic have taken 11 of 12 overall vs. New Jersey dating back to February of 2008.

New Jersey is winless in six consecutive trips to Orlando.
