Jefferson leads Jazz over Bucks
Jan 4, 2012 - 5:36 AM Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Al Jefferson had 26 points and 10 rebounds, lifting the Utah Jazz to an 85-73 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.Paul Millsap added 13 points and 12 boards for the Jazz, who improved to 3-0 at home this year. Gordon Hayward donated 12 points.
The news was not all good for Utah, which saw Josh Howard (quad), Devin Harris (calf) and Millsap (knee) suffer injuries.
"It was great. Six games in eight days are tough," said Utah head coach Tyrone Corbin. "Everyone's tired, but they came out with great energy (especially) at the end of the game. These kinds of games are tough. (Milwaukee) had a couple guys out of their line-up and you think it's going to be easy, but they hung around and we had a ballgame."
Drew Gooden ended with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Bucks, who have lost two in a row to fall to 2-3 on the season. Stephen Jackson tallied 16 points.
"It's tough. We can't win scoring 70-80 points," said Milwaukee head coach Drew Gooden. "We've got to be in the high 90s to beat these teams. That comes with executing the offense and we shot 30 percent from the field tonight. You can't win ballgames that way."
Milwaukee played without Mike Dunleavy (illness), Beno Udrih (shoulder) and Andrew Bogut (personal matters).
Holding an 18-16 lead with 1:39 left in the first quarter, Utah scored seven straight points to build a 25-16 margin with 10:58 remaining in the second stanza.
The Jazz ripped off eight straight points moments later to take a 33-20 edge on Millsap's layup with 7:27 to go.
Gooden scored the final four points of the half to get the Bucks within nine, 43-34.
Milwaukee used a 12-3 run early in the third quarter to cut the gap to 49-46 with 6:28 remaining.
But the Jazz scored the next six points to build a 55-46 lead on Derrick Favors' slam with 4:34 left. They took a 62-55 margin into the fourth.
The Bucks got within three, 62-59, early in the fourth, but the Jazz scored the next seven points for a 69-59 lead with 6:51 left.
Milwaukee never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
