Kings beat Raptors for 1st road win
Jan 12, 2012 - 3:47 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - DeMarcus Cousins recorded his fourth straight double-double with 21 points and a career-high 19 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings earned their first road win of the season, 98-91, over the Toronto Raptors."I'm out there just grabbing balls," Cousins said.
Tyreke Evans was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free-throw line and finished with 29 points for the Kings, who moved to 1-4 on the road this season.
Jose Calderon had 13 points, 10 assists and six rebounds for the Raptors, who went 1-2 on their only set of back-to-back-to-back games this season.
Toronto's Andrea Bargnani exited in the third quarter with a strained left calf. He had 10 points on just 2-of-13 shooting with 10 rebounds.
With the Kings holding a 82-77 advantage with 2:34 remaining in the final quarter, Sacramento used an 8-3 spurt to take its largest lead of the contest, 90-80, as Evans capped the mini run with four consecutive free throws.
Leandro Barbosa hit a jumper to pull the Raptors within five with 24.9 left, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Cousins netted eight points and Evans added six points as the Kings led, 23-19, after 12 minutes of play.
"His rebounds were huge and that's what concerned us," Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said of Cousins.
Neither team shot the lights out in the opening half as Sacramento took a slim 41-40 advantage into the break. The Raptors shot 37.5 percent from the field while the Kings shot just 34.8 percent. Barbosa led all first-half scorers with 16 points.
Jimmer Fredette, Cousins and Evans poured in five points apiece in the third as the score was tied, 63-63, heading into the final stanza.
