Sixers aim to bounce back vs. woeful Wizards
Jan 13, 2012 - 3:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers long winning streak is a thing of the past. However, a visit from the woeful Washington Wizards may be just what they need to get back on the winning track. The Sixers try to improve to 5-0 at home this evening when they welcome the Wizards to Wells Fargo Center.
Philly will be trying to bounce back from a loss in New York on Wednesday that saw its six-game winning streak stopped. The Sixers shot a season-worst 39.5 percent from the floor in the setback.
Evan Turner and Andre Iguodala each ended with 16 points for the Sixers, who were playing their third game in as many nights.
Jrue Holiday donated 13 points for Philadelphia, which was without starting center Spencer Hawes (back). Thaddeus Young and Elton Brand chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Brand also had 10 rebounds.
"We really missed a guy like Spencer in a game tonight because he's our best passing guy and we like to play out of the post and do some of that stuff. So I was really just trying to work on the fly," Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins said. "I was really proud of our guys tonight. Five games in six nights, three in a row. Battle, battle, battle."
Hawes is questionable for tonight's tilt.
The Sixers, who play 14 of the their next 17 in their arena, haven't opened a season with five consecutive home wins since taking the first 10 of the 2002-03 campaign.
As hot as the Sixers have been at the outset, the Wizards have been just as cold, losing nine of their first 10 games. Their latest setback came on Wednesday when they dropped a 78-64 decision to the Derrick Rose-less Chicago Bulls.
Jordan Crawford paced the Wizards with 14 points, while John Wall added 11 points, eight assists and five boards for Washington, which had beaten Toronto a night earlier.
The Wizards were without forward Andray Blatche on Wednesday and could be without him tonight. His presence was missed against the Bulls, who outrebounded Washington, 62-46.
At 90.6 points every 100 possessions, the Wizards currently own the least efficient offense in NBA history and are on pace to obliterate the previous low mark of 92.2 points produced per 100 possessions shared by the 17-win Denver Nuggets in 2002-03 and the 23-win New York Knicks in 1976-77.
Philadelphia has won nine of its last 12 at home versus the Wizards.
