Reeling Bobcats host struggling Pistons
Jan 13, 2012 - 3:48 PM (Sports Network) - The Charlotte Bobcats try to put the brakes on a five-game losing streak this evening, as they welcome the Detroit Pistons to Time Warner Cable Arena.Charlotte started off a back-to-back-to-back stretch in disappointing fashion on Thursday, falling to an Atlanta team that was without All-Star center Al Horford, 111-81.
Byron Mullens had a career-high 21 points, while Gerald Henderson added 16 for the Bobcats, who have lost nine of 11 to start the season.
"That loss was too bad for me to keep my head up about how I played," said Mullens.
Aside from Mullens, the rest of the Bobcats' starters combined for just 33 points, including leading scorer D.J. Augustin, who managed just eight points, but did dish out eight assists.
"We're just kind of giving up now," Bobcats coach Paul Silas said. "We have to learn from our losses. It doesn't seem as if that's happening. We just have to turn things around."
Charlotte, which is surrendering a league-worst 102.7 points-per-game on the year, will be home for the next three games and is 1-4 in its arena this season.
Tonight, though, the Bobcats face a Pistons team that is only scoring 83.7 ppg and one that has lost six in a row. Detroit's latest setback came on Thursday, as it was upended by the Milwaukee Bucks, 102-93.
It was just the second time this season that the Pistons topped the 90-point mark.
Greg Monroe finished with game-highs of 32 points and 16 boards in the Pistons' sixth straight loss. Brandon Knight chipped in 20 points and Tayshaun Prince had 13.
"Greg was tremendous," said Pistons coach Lawrence Frank. "You can't say enough good things about his performance. You ride him, you ride him, and ride him. I thought he had a great pace."
Charlotte has won four of the last six meetings in this series.
