Wolves host Kings in battle of cellar dwellers

Jan 16, 2012 - 3:50 PM (Sports Network) - Two teams in the basement of their respective divisions get together tonight in the Twin Cities, as the Minnesota Timberwolves will host the Sacramento Kings from Target Center.

Minnesota will also host Detroit on the quick residency and is winless in its last three games at home. It has dropped three of four and five of seven games overall, including Saturday's 93-91 loss at Atlanta. Kevin Love has recorded a double-double in all 12 games this season and finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves.

Rookie Ricky Rubio had a season-best 18 points and 12 assists, while Wayne Ellington collected 13 points off the bench in defeat.

"I don't have anything to say," said Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman. "There's something wrong. I don't have anything to say. Our guys did everything they could to win that game, it just didn't happen."

Wolves forward Michael Beasley is day-to-day with a balky foot and has missed five straight games. Guard Jose Barea is questionable with an ankle problem and has missed the previous two games.

The Timberwolves are currently basement dwellers in the Northwest Division.

Sacramento, last in the Pacific Division, will put the finishing touches on a five-game road trip tonight and is 1-3 so far on the trek. It suffered a 99-60 loss at Dallas on Saturday, as DeMarcus Cousins had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Sacramento, which shot a miserable 25.6 percent from the field and scored a franchise-low 23 first-half points.

"We made the Mavs mad," said Kings coach Keith Smart. "But we didn't have it and they played at a very, very high level."

Marcus Thornton had 14 points and Tyreke Evans finished with a season-low three points for the Kings, who have lost six of eight games overall and will return home to host Indiana before hitting the road again for three contests.

The Kings took two of three meetings with Minnesota a season ago and have won seven of the past 10 matchups in this series. These two teams have split the last 12 encounters at Target Center.
