Anderson leads Magic past Knicks
Jan 16, 2012 - 10:59 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Ryan Anderson made seven three-pointers en route to a career-high 30 points, as the Orlando Magic took down the New York Knicks, 102-93.Hedo Turkoglu made four shots from beyond the arc and ended with 15 points for the Magic, who finished a four-game road trip with a perfect 4-0 mark. J.J. Redick tallied 21 points.
"I wasn't feeling very good before the game, but I just went out and played and I think the adrenaline takes over and you know, I've done it before, played sick before," Anderson said.
Dwight Howard was limited to eight points and 10 rebounds. He had 45 points, 23 boards and went to the foul line an NBA record 39 times during Thursday's win over Golden State.
Orlando shot 50.7 percent from the floor and went 17-for-35 from beyond the arc.
Despite playing with a sore ankle and wrist, Carmelo Anthony ended with 33 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Knicks.
Toney Douglas and Iman Shumpert each donated 12 points for New York, which has lost three in a row. Amare Stoudemire had 10 points.
"Obviously, 17 threes is not going to help you. Anderson made a couple that were tough looks, but they made them," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said.
Trailing by two, 85-83, midway through the fourth quarter, the Magic used a Jameer Nelson free throw and three-pointers by Turkoglu and Anderson to grab a 90-85 lead with 5:05 to play.
Following an Anthony layup, Turkoglu made 1-of-2 from the foul line. Anthony kept New York close with a jumper, but Turkoglu's three-pointer at the other end made it 94-89 with 3:53 left.
Redick's reverse layup over a minute later made it a 96-91 contest. The Knicks went cold at the wrong time, with Anthony and Douglas combining to miss a trio of three-pointers prior to Orlando's next points.
Redick made another reverse layup with 1:24 remaining to make it a seven-point game. He added two free throws with 55.3 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
New York scored the first six points of the game and led throughout the first quarter. They took a 23-17 lead into the second.
A tight second stanza resulted in two lead changes and four ties, with the Knicks taking a 51-45 edge into the locker room.
The Magic trailed for most of the third frame, but scored the final four points of the stanza to make it a two-point contest, 75-73.
Neither team led by more than three early in the fourth quarter.
