Clippers seek success in Salt Lake City
Jan 17, 2012 - 3:45 PM (Sports Network) - Two of the more improved teams in the West meet in Salt Lake City Tuesday as the Clippers aim to avoid their 16th consecutive road loss to the Utah Jazz. The Clips were able to win their third straight game on Monday despite being without All-Star point guard Chris Paul. Blake Griffin picked up the slack with a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds as Los Angeles took down the New Jersey Nets, 101-91, at Staples Center.
Paul sat out the contest with a strained left hamstring, which he suffered in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 102-94 victory over the Lakers. He had an MRI on Sunday, which came back negative, and has been listed as day-to-day. His injury further depleted a backcourt already missing Mo Williams (sore right foot) and Eric Bledsoe (offseason right knee surgery).
Randy Foye started in place of Paul vs. the Nets and scored 13 points while dishing out 10 assists.
"Randy Foye came in and played an unbelievable game," Clippers guard Chauncey Billups said. "Everybody played a great game. We talked about getting more rebounds, the more rebounds we get, we get more shots."
The Clippers outrebounded the Nets, 46-35.
Caron Butler and Billups netted 20 points apiece for the Clippers, who have won six of seven overall. All six of the wins have come at home, while the lone loss occurred at Portland last Tuesday.
Utah, meanwhile, is coming off its most impressive road win of the season, a 106-96 triumph in Denver on Sunday. Paul Millsap had 26 points and 12 rebounds in that one for the Jazz.
"I just found a zone," said Millsap. "My teammates did a good job of finding me and I just knocked down shots."
Gordon Hayward scored 19 and Al Jefferson had 18 and 12 boards for Utah, winners of seven of its last eight overall.
Overall the Jazz, who are 6-1 at home this season, have won four straight against the Clips and 10 of 11.
Traditionally, Salt Lake City has been a house of horrors for the Clippers, who have lost in 41 of their last 42 visits there.
