Magic aim to keep Spurs winless on the road

Jan 18, 2012 - 3:47 PM (Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs take another crack at their first road win of the season this evening when they wrap up a Sunshine State sojourn against the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center.

The Spurs' road woes continued on Tuesday in Miami, as LeBron James and Chris Bosh combined for 63 points in the absence of Dwyane Wade to help the Heat crush San Antonio, 120-98.

Danny Green netted 20 points to pace the Spurs, who fell to 0-5 away from home for the first time since the 1988-89 campaign. Tony Parker had 18 points, while Gary Neal and Kawhi Leonard both netted 12 in the losing effort.

"LeBron James was great. He waited for the third quarter to come and he went wild," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "We had no one that stepped up. We should be embarrassed"

What makes San Antonio's road start even more puzzling is the fact that it has won all nine of its games at the Alamo Dome. However, they play three of their next four and six of their next eight on enemy territory.

Dating to last season and including three playoff defeats at Memphis, the Spurs have lost their last 10 games away from home.

"We're really good at home and on the road, we (stink). That's the biggest difference," Popovich added.

Orlando, meanwhile, comes in red-hot after beating the Charlotte Bobcats for their fifth straight win on Tuesday. Dwight Howard finished with 25 points and 17 rebounds, one of five double-digit scorers for the Magic in their 96-89 victory over the Bobcats.

"I pray he doesn't go anywhere and stays," said Magic guard Von Wafer of Howard, who has been often rumored to be on the trading block. "I love playing with him."

Hedo Turkoglu scored eight of his 15 points in a close fourth quarter, Jameer Nelson scored 17, and Wafer and Ryan Anderson each chipped in 13 for Orlando, which was coming off a perfect four-game road trip.

Tonight's tilt will be the third game in three days for the Magic.

"It's not like any other season where we get chances to get breaks and rest here and there," said Howard

The Magic have won four of their last six against the Spurs, who have dropped three in a row in Orlando by a combined 60 points.
