Neal's late shot helps Spurs take down Magic

Jan 19, 2012 - 6:32 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Gary Neal's three-pointer late in overtime proved to be the game-winner, as the Spurs hung on for an 85-83 win over the Magic.

Tony Parker scored a game-high 25 and added nine assists, as the Spurs earned their first road victory of the season. Tim Duncan had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Richard Jefferson finished with 11 points.

"We continued to make stops, we continued to push, we continued to find ways to keep the lead and then give the lead back up," said Duncan. "It was a great victory for us, we needed one on the road and it was a good one."

Neal went just 1-for-6 from the floor, but his lone bucket proved timely, giving San Antonio an 84-81 lead with 28 seconds remaining.

Dwight Howard had 24 points and 25 rebounds, as the Magic saw their five-game win streak come to an end. J.J. Redick scored 13 -- including his team's final six points of regulation to force overtime.

Neal's trey came after Howard tied the game with a put-back slam. After Neal put the Spurs on top, Magic guard Von Wafer drove hard to the hoop, took the foul and scored the bucket. But he missed the ensuing free throw, forcing Orlando to foul Jefferson, who hit 1-of-2 to seal the final result with 14 seconds left.

Orlando's last possession resulted in a Ryan Anderson fadeaway three, which went off the back end of the rim. Howard grabbed the board and hit Redick at the top of the key. Redick released the ball just after the final buzzer sounded and watched as his inconsequential trey ripped through the net.

To be fair, the Magic, who were playing their third game in as many nights, wouldn't have found themselves in overtime without Redick. The reserve guard got the start in the absence of Hedo Turkoglu and delivered down the stretch.

Neither team was able to fully assert itself in a game which saw 12 ties and 17 lead changes. The Spurs went up 73-69 on Parker's jumper with 2:44 left in fourth but Redick scored the game's next four points. He knocked down a pair of free throws, then dribbled the length of the floor and made a contested layup off a Parker turnover.

On the other end, Danny Green penetrated and found Duncan for the go-ahead bucket with 30 seconds left but again Redick responded. He missed a trey, but got the ball back off an Anderson rebound, drove the paint, drew the foul and knocked down a pair from the stripe to force overtime.

"On the outside looking in you might say, 'Well, you guys are NBA players, suck it up,'" said Howard of the condensed schedule. "But it's tough, especially when you play a lot of minutes."

Game Notes

The Spurs improved to 1-5 on the road this season. They are 9-0 at home...The win snapped a 10-game road losing streak, which dated back to last season...Turkoglu was out due to back spasms.
