Anderson lifts Magic over Indiana
Jan 25, 2012 - 3:02 AM Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - A night after being held scoreless in a historic loss, Orlando's Ryan Anderson poured in a game-high 24 points in Tuesday's 102-83 win over the Pacers.Anderson went 0-for-8 in Monday's setback against the Celtics, which saw the Magic score a franchise low 56 points, but hit five threes against the Pacers. Dwight Howard added 14 points and nine rebounds, surpassing Nick Anderson as Orlando's all-time leading scorer (10,657 points) while J.J. Redick finished with 15.
Danny Granger and Roy Hibbert had 16 points apiece for the Pacers, who suffered their first home loss of the season.
The Pacers, who were coming off Sunday's win over the Lakers, hadn't allowed a team to reach triple digits since a 118-83 loss to the Heat on January 4 -- a span of nine games. But Orlando, which also registered franchise lows in field goals (16) and field goal percentage (24.6) on Monday, had its way offensively.
Indiana led by as many as 10 in the first, but with Howard on the bench due to foul trouble, the Magic began to establish themselves. In the second, a 10-0 run, capped by a trey from Anderson, turned a 39-31 deficit into a 41-39 advantage and the teams traded buckets in the closing minutes for a 45-45 game at the half.
Howard passed Nick Anderson with a slam early in the third and the Magic continued to roll. Glen Davis scored consecutive baskets -- on a put-back layup and a runout dunk -- to conclude a 15-4 run, as Orlando grabbed a 67-56 lead. Quentin Richardson's top-of-the-key buzzer-beater stretched the advantage to 74-62 entering the fourth.
Richardson's acrobatic up-and-under layup with 6 1/2 minutes remaining gave the Magic an 18-point edge and they were not threatened down the stretch, as the lead grew to as many as 21.
Game Notes
Nick Anderson played 10 seasons with the Magic from 1989-99 and now stands at No. 2 on the franchise's all-time scoring the list with 10,650 points...Howard saw his streak of four straight double-doubles come to an end...The Pacers won their first five home games of the season, their best start as the host since they won their first seven home games of 2002-03.
