Weary Blazers end stretch against Warriors
Jan 25, 2012 - 3:51 PM (Sports Network) - The Portland Trail Blazers will shoot for their third win in as many nights when they pay a visit to the Golden State Warriors. The Blazers topped Sacramento in Rip City on Monday before disposing of Memphis, 97-83, on Tuesday at the Rose Garden. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 23 points, including four during a 22-2 run that vaulted Portland over the previously streaking Grizzlies.
The Trail Blazers held Memphis without a made field goal for more than 10 minutes while they made their game-changing run between the second and third quarters.
The Grizzlies had a seven-game winning streak snapped, failing to tie the team record of eight straight victories set eight years ago.
"Considering the opponent, it was definitely a good win," said Blazers center Marcus Camby, who had 22 rebounds.
Jamal Crawford had 15 points off the bench for Portland, which is 8-1 on its home floor vs. just 3-6 on the road, and Wesley Matthews scored 13.
"We're still working on our rhythm," Blazers coach Nate McMillan told the team's website. "We're still working on execution. What I do see is guys challenging each other."
The Warriors also played Memphis in their last encounter on Monday but came up on the wrong end of a 91-90 heartbreaker.
The Grizzlies trailed by double digits for much of that game before rallying for a 39-22 differential in the final frame.
Monta Ellis logged 20 points, while Stephen Curry totaled 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in the setback, Golden State's third straight. David Lee posted 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Warriors, who shot just eight free throws.
"They fought back, give them credit. They battled, they got underneath our skin, and we didn't respond individually or collectively," Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said.
Portland has dropped 11 of its past 12 visits to Oracle Arena, with the lone win coming on March 11, 2010.
