Suns and Hornets tangle in the Big Easy

Feb 1, 2012 - 4:05 PM (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Suns will hit the road to the Big Easy tonight for a showdown with the New Orleans Hornets.

The Suns have lost four of five games and are coming off Monday?s 122-99 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Marcin Gortat led the Suns with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Jared Dudley finished with 15 points and five boards in a losing effort. Grant Hill contributed 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the Suns.

"We were playing catch-up from there and it's hard to play catch-up against that team, especially when they've got everything locked in," Suns head coach Alvin Gentry said.

Phoenix was also without star point guard Steve Nash, who suffered a left thigh contusion in the team's 86-84 win over Memphis on Saturday. The future Hall of Famer is listed as questionable for this evening's game.

Phoenix is only 3-7 away from the desert this season.

Meanwhile, the Hornets have lost two in a row and are only 4-17 on the season. They recently suffered a 109-95 road setback to the Miami Heat on Monday, as Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry led the Hornets with 14 points apiece and Emeka Okafor added 13 in defeat.

Greivis Vasquez netted 11 for New Orleans, which has now lost 11 of its last 12 games.

"Tough game," Hornets head coach Monty Williams said. "In one sense we played really hard, in the other sense, we just didn't have the third quarter energy to match what they brought to the table."

Williams' squad is only 2-10 at home this season.

New Orleans and Phoenix have split a pair of matchups this season and will meet again April 1 in the Valley of the Sun.
