Paul helps Clippers beat Magic in OT

Feb 7, 2012 - 6:49 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Chris Paul filled the stat sheet with 29 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter and overtime, to go with eight assists and seven rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers took down the Orlando Magic, 107-102.

Blake Griffin had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who have won six of their last seven games. Los Angeles nailed 22- of-25 attempts from the foul line.

Chauncey Billups had 18 points but left the game midway through the fourth quarter after suffering an injury to his lower left leg. He wasn't able to put any weight on his left leg and had to be helped back to the locker room.

Dwight Howard scored 33 points to go with 14 rebounds while Jameer Nelson returned from a five-game absence following a concussion and finished with 15 points and 12 assists. Orlando had its three-game winning streak snapped.

A 12-4 Magic run, capped by Jason Richardson's three-point play with 1:01 to go in regulation put the Magic on top, 94-93.

Griffin was fouled with 22.5 remaining in regulation, but hit just 1-of-2 to tie the contest. Nelson and Mo Williams both missed jumpers in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime.

Back-to-back treys by Nelson and J.J. Redick gave the Magic a 100-96 advantage midway through the overtime session.

But the Clippers answered with a 7-0 flurry, capped by Paul's fadeaway jumper along the right baseline, giving the visitors a 103-100 advantage with 1:16 to play.

Richardson's dunk at the other end pulled the Magic back within a point, but Orlando wasn't able to corral a defensive rebound after missed jumpers by Caron Butler and Paul.

Williams hit a pair of free throws for a 105-102 Clippers lead with 12.6 left.

Richardson's three-point try from the left wing off a side out-of-bounds play rattled in and out, and Paul nailed two foul shots at the other end to seal the win for Los Angeles.

"We just gutted it out," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said of the win. "It was going back-and-forth and we got a couple stops at the end and we were able to convert."

Howard scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor while Richardson added 12 as Orlando took a 30-21 lead into the second. The Magic shot a blistering 68.4 percent from the field in the first.

The Magic took a 47-42 lead into the locker room as Howard poured in 21 points to pace Orlando.

Early in the third, Paul's pull-up trey from the top of the arc gave the Clippers their first lead, 50-49, since they led 5-4 early on.

"The only thing I fault our guys for was the start of the third quarter. The first six minutes, we came with no energy whatsoever. The rest, it's on me," Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy said.

Howard's hook shot in the paint with 1.5 remaining pulled the Magic within 65-62 heading into the final quarter.
