Spurs play stars, roll past slumping Nuggets

Feb 24, 2012 - 6:09 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - DeJuan Blair had 28 points and 12 rebounds on Thursday, helping the Spurs cruise to a 114-99 win over the Nuggets.

San Antonio saw its 11-game win streak come to an end in Tuesday's blowout loss at Portland. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker didn't play against the Trail Blazers, but scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, in the bounce-back win.

The Spurs, who got 17 points from Richard Jefferson and 16 from Danny Green, completed their annual Rodeo Road Trip with an 8-1 mark.

"We came off a huge loss the other day so we just wanted to come in and try to hit them first because they play great at home," Blair said about the Nuggets. "We played well. It was fun."

The Nuggets, meanwhile, have lost 10 of 13 heading into this weekend's All- Star break. They were led by Corey Brewer's 23 points while Andre Miller added 20 and Arron Afflalo had 19.

San Antonio controlled from the opening tip, leading 31-15 after one behind eight points from Blair and six points from Duncan, who did not play due to a coach's decision on Tuesday.

The advantage grew to as many as 28 in the second and it was 65-39 at the break.

The Spurs shot 53.2 percent in the first half, got 16 points from Blair, 11 from Green and eight apiece from the rest of the starters -- Duncan, Jefferson and Parker, who was also a coach's decision on Tuesday.

The Nuggets managed to make it a 20-point game after three, 92-72, hitting 12- of-19 shots in the quarter, and got as close as 97-85 on Brewer's bank shot midway through the fourth.

Blair, though, answered with four straight to make it 101-85 and the Spurs weren't threatened down the stretch.

"I was very happy with the team [in the second half]," Nuggets head coach George Karl said. "We seemed to have a bounce in our step a little bit."

Game Notes

San Antonio improved to 11-9 on the road this season while the Nuggets fell to 9-8 at the Pepsi Center...The Nuggets have lost seven of their last eight games against the Spurs.
