Sixers try to tune out Jazz

Mar 9, 2012 - 4:01 PM (Sports Network) - Evan Turner tries to build upon the best performance of his career this evening when the Philadelphia 76ers welcome the Utah Jazz to Wells Fargo Center.

Turner made his second start of the season for the Sixers on Wednesday and scored 16 of his career-high 26 points in the first half, helping Philadelphia explode for a 103-71 win over the Boston Celtics in the first meeting of the season between the division foes.

"Evan is a great leader," Collins said. "He worked his tail off to be a better basketball player in the offseason and he was when he came back. When he didn't start, I know a part of him said ?I should be.? But he didn't say anything. Evan has extreme confidence. He thinks he?s the best player on this team."

The Sixers scored 100 points for the second time in four games after going 19 straight without doing it. They moved to 23-17 and took a two-game lead over Boston for first place in the Atlantic Division.

"I'm just trying to build off this and enjoy the moment," Turner said. "I'm not saying ?I told you so.?"

Staying in the win column may prove to be difficult for a Sixers team that lost to Utah back on Dec. 30 and has dropped eight of nine and 17 of 21 in the series.

The Jazz enter tonight's contest riding a two-game winning streak after a victory over woeful Charlotte on Wednesday, 99-93, pulled them back to .500 (19-19). Al Jefferson scored 31 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Utah in that one.

"Al was doing a good job of passing the ball tonight," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "We need to touch that thing inside before we take our jump shots. That?s who we are. We go through him and need him to make the right plays. "We know if they come and double him we want to make sure we space the floor and make the right plays."

Paul Millsap chipped in 16 points and Derrick Favors had 14 off the bench for the Jazz, who sit in the basement of the Northwest Division but have won four of their last five.
