Turner sparks Sixers over Jazz

Mar 10, 2012 - 4:03 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - In his third consecutive start for Philadelphia, Evan Turner filled the stat sheet with 16 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, and the 76ers defeated the Utah Jazz, 104-91, on Friday.

Lou Williams and Thaddeus Young chipped in 21 points apiece off the bench for the 76ers, who have won two straight since losing eight of their prior 10 contests.

"When you got your guys off the bench, and two of them are your leading scorers, that kind of lets you know what kind of team that they have. They do a great job of spreading the ball around. They play unselfishly," Utah point guard Devin Harris said of Williams and Young.

The Sixers shot 52.6 percent from the floor and tallied 25 fastbreak points.

"That was a great, great win for our guys tonight. Utah is a very, very tough team to play against. They have a distinctive style offensively. They have some post players who cause a ton of problems for you. They cut hard. If you turn your back at all, they're cutting behind you," Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins said.

Paul Millsap had 15 points and nine rebounds while Al Jefferson and Derrick Favors donated 14 points each for Utah, which had won four of its past five games.

Philadelphia led by 10 heading into the fourth and used a 9-2 spurt in the final frame to essentially put the game away.

Jrue Holiday, who had 16 points and four assists, began the flurry with a three-pointer and putback layup. Williams scored the next four as the Sixers led, 89-74, with 7:37 remaining.

A bit later, a pair of Millsap free throws brought the Jazz within eight, 91-83, but Utah never got any closer as the Sixers scored the next five to reestablish a double-digit margin.

In a tightly contested first half, the Jazz took a 27-25 edge into the second, but the Sixers led, 49-47, at the break.

Young, who missed Philadelphia's last contest due to an upper respiratory tract infection, paced the hosts in the first half with 12 points and three boards.

The Sixers extended their margin in the third.

Turner's three-point play capped a 15-5 run as the hosts took a 64-54 lead midway through the stanza. Philadelphia led 78-68 after three.

It was Young's fourth 20-point game of the season...Utah shot 40.5 percent and was 3-of-11 from beyond the arc...Philadelphia recorded 26 assists on 41 made field goals.
