Rockets wrap up homestand with Kings
Mar 26, 2012 - 2:50 PM (Sports Network) - The banged-up Houston Rockets hope to end a four-game homestand on a winning note Monday when they welcome the Sacramento Kings to the Toyota Center. The Rockets had won the first two tests on the residency before stumbling against in-state rival Dallas on Saturday, falling 101-99 in an overtime thriller.
Houston had a chance to win it at the final buzzer of the extra frame, but Chase Budinger's three-pointer from the right corner clanked off the front of the rim.
Chandler Parsons, who had 12 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, sent the game into the extra frame with a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Goran Dragic posted 24 points, eight assists and five rebounds while Luis Scola added 19 points and six boards for Houston, which is deadlocked with both Utah and Denver for the final two playoff spots in the Western Conference.
"You can't expect much more than what we had today," Scola said. "We got good looks but they just didn't go in. We played well. We just need to keep going. We needed this game. It's a shame we weren't going to have it and now we've got to go out there to Dallas and try to get one."
The Rockets have hung tough over the past few weeks despite being without their starting backcourt of Kyle Lowry, who has missed nine games with a bacterial infection, and Kevin Martin, who has missed seven straight with a shoulder issue.
"I feel we have a lot of players that can play," Scola told the Rockets' website. "Everybody has injuries and we do have them, too, but we just have to keep playing. We needed this one big time, now we have Sacramento coming up at home and we need that one even more."
The Kings, meanwhile, have dropped two straight contests, including Saturday's 111-108 setback at Golden State.
DeMarcus Cousins had 28 points and 18 rebounds to pace Sacramento in that one while John Salmons added 17, Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton finished with 16 and Isaiah Thomas chipped in 12.
"We did everything that we could. In the second half, I thought our guys did a great job defensively," Kings head coach Keith Smart said.
Houston has won five of six over Sacramento, including a 103-89 triumph in south Texas on Jan. 13.
