Warriors, Hornets meet again in Oakland

Mar 28, 2012 - 2:48 PM (Sports Network) - Golden State will shoot for its second win over the New Orleans Hornets in a week's time when the two teams tangle in Oakland.

The Warriors topped the Hornets in the Big Easy last Wednesday, 101-92, behind rookie Klay Thompson, who amassed a career-high 27 points on 11-of-24 shooting.

Golden State hasn't been able to follow up on that, however, and has lost three of four since, including Tuesday's 104-101 setback to the Lakers in Oakland.

Kobe Bryant made the go-ahead jumper with 32.3 seconds remaining in that one as the Lakers held on.

David Lee gave Golden State its first lead of the game with 1:22 remaining and finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Brandon Rush also scored 23 and Thompson added 20 points for the Warriors, who have lost 14 of their last 15 meetings with the Lakers.

"I totally understand that we are playing the Los Angeles Lakers with a guy that's an absolute assassin," said Warriors coach Mark Jackson. "When you look at the roster, when you look at the starting lineup, I think it would be safe to say that the Lakers would drill us. The bottom line is, at the end of the day, I have a bunch of guys that compete, get after it, work extremely hard, have tremendous pride and we gave ourselves a chance."

Golden State is just 2-6 since trading leading scorer Monta Ellis to Milwaukee on March 15.

The Hornets, meanwhile, are coming off a loss to their former superstar, Chris Paul, and the LA Clippers on Monday.

Al-Farouq Aminu had a season-high 15 points to pace New Orleans, which has dropped two straight. Carl Landry added 14 points and 10 rebounds but the Hornets turned it over a ghastly 29 times.

"You're not going to beat anybody with 29 turnovers," said New Orleans coach Monty Williams. "They pushed our guys around a little bit tonight."

The Hornets are scheduled to get big man Jason Smith back in the lineup tonight. The 7-footer completed a two-game suspension Monday for a flagrant foul against the Clips' Blake Griffin last Thursday.

The Warriors, meanwhile, continue to play without guard Stephen Curry (sprained right ankle) and center Andris Biedrins (groin).

Golden State has won four of five overall versus the Hornets.
