Desperate Timberwolves visit lowly 'Cats
Mar 28, 2012 - 3:10 PM (Sports Network) - Time is running out on the Minnesota Timberwolves in their hunt for a postseason berth and they'll try and get back on track tonight against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena.Minnesota is 3 1/2 games behind Denver for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Western Conference and has lost eight of the past 11 games. The Timberwolves suffered a 93-86 loss at Memphis on Tuesday, as Kevin Love had 28 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.
Wayne Ellington chipped in 15 points and Derrick Williams finished with 14 for the Wolves, who are 11-15 away from the Twin Cities and are winless in three straight games on the road.
Memphis has won all three meetings between the teams this season.
"All three games have gone the same," said Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman. "Fourth quarter we're right there and then they kind of make the plays down the stretch and get the stops they need. It's been tough."
Wolves guard J.J. Barea missed his second game in a row because of a thigh contusion and is questionable for Wednesday.
Charlotte is playing out the string and opened a three-game homestand with Monday's 102-95 loss to the Boston Celtics.
Gerald Henderson led the Bobcats with 21 points, Byron Mullens scored 18 and Derrick Brown had 16 in defeat.
"We have every reason to put our heads down but we have to fight through adversity and just keep playing," said Mullens. "If we play every other team as hard as we played the Celtics, the sky's the limit."
The Bobcats are 4-18 at home and have lost three straight as the host. On the injury front for Charlotte, guard D.J. Augustin (knee) is probable for tonight and center DeSagana Diop (hamstring/knee) is listed as questionable.
Charlotte will also host Denver on the residency and dropped a 102-90 decision at Minnesota on Feb. 15 this season. The Bobcats have won eight of 10 meetings with the Wolves, losers in four straight as the guest in this series.
