Grizzlies resume tough stretch vs. Warriors
Apr 3, 2012 - 2:42 PM (Sports Network) - Playoff-hopeful Memphis will resume a tough three games in three nights stretch when they welcome the lottery bound Golden State Warriors to Beale Street. The Grizzlies are currently the fifth seed in the jumbled Western Conference playoff picture after a big 94-88 win at West-leading Oklahoma City on Monday.
O.J. Mayo led six Grizzlies in double figures with 22 points in that one as Memphis held off a late surge to best the Thunder.
Tony Allen netted 15 points, Marc Gasol scored 13, Rudy Gay supplied 12 and Jeremy Pargo and Zach Randolph finished with 10 apiece for the Grizzlies, who won their second straight and fourth in the last five despite being without starting point guard Mike Conley (sprained right ankle).
"That was just outstanding defense by our group and outstanding rebounding by our group, and we just made enough shots and plays down the stretch to win the game," Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins said.
Conley, who is averaging 12.8 points and a team-high 7.1 assists, is questionable for Tuesday's contest.
Memphis, which is 17-7 at home this season, will finish its back-to-back-to- back test in Dallas on Wednesday.
The Warriors, meanwhile, matched a season-high five-game losing streak with a 120-112 hiccup at the hands of the Lakers in LA on Sunday.
David Lee paced Golden State, which has lost 10 of 12 overall, with 27 points. Nate Robinson went 5-of-6 from beyond the arc and scored 17 in defeat while Klay Thompson had 18 points and Richard Jefferson added 16.
"I was proud of the way we fought. We put ourselves in a position to win," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "Credit Kobe [Bryant], he made some big shots at the end and gave them some breathing room. That's Kobe."
The Grizz have won five straight over Golden State and will be attempting to sweep the four-game season series tonight.
