Wizards pay a visit to Nets
Apr 6, 2012 - 3:08 PM (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets are hoping floor leader Deron Williams is healthy enough to return to the court when they open a three-game homestand tonight versus the Washington Wizards.Williams did not play in Wednesday's 101-88 loss at Portland because of a stomach virus and is questionable for Friday. D-Will leads the Nets with 21.6 points and 8.6 assists this season.
New Jersey was led by Kris Humphries, who registered 21 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Morrow and Gerald Green each had 20 points in the loss, as the Nets compiled a 2-2 mark on a four-game western trek.
"We have a team of fighters here and tonight we fought," said New Jersey head coach Avery Johnson. "We battled hard and got back into it, but we just ran out of gas at the end."
The Nets have lost two straight since a three-game winning streak and are just 4-8 in the past 12 games. They will also host Cleveland and Philadelphia on the upcoming residency and are set to play six of seven in the Garden State, where the Nets sport a 7-19 record.
Washington opened a three-game road trip with last night's 99-94 loss at Detroit, as John Wall scored a game-high 28 points to go with 10 assists and Kevin Seraphin added 15 points and nine rebounds.
"I know things will get better," said Wall about Washington's struggles. "We're making the steps and the process is moving to get better. We just have to keep working hard."
The Wizards shot 42.3 percent for the game and committed 18 turnovers, leading to 25 Detroit points.
Washington has lost four in a row and nine of 10 games, and suffered its fourth loss in a row as the visitor. The Wizards are 5-22 away from D.C. this season and will close out the trek Monday at Charlotte.
The 2011-12 series between the Wizards and Nets is tied at a game apiece with each team holding serve on the road. Washington has won eight of the last 10 matchups with New Jersey.
