Bucks aim to stop skid, stay in playoff hunt vs. Nets

Apr 21, 2012 - 2:54 PM (Sports Network) - A less than fruitful week has the Milwaukee Bucks' playoff hopes on life support with the end of the regular season rapidly approaching.

The Bucks are three games behind the Philadelphia 76ers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with four to play heading into tonight's matchup with the New Jersey Nets, a club they have topped 10 straight times.

Consecutive losses to lowly Washington and Indiana put Milwaukee into its precarious position.

Brandon Jennings had 27 points in the 118-109 setback to the Pacers on Thursday while Mike Dunleavy added 23 and Luc Mbah a Moute finished with 16 and 11 rebounds for the Bucks, who have lost three straight and five of six overall.

"We battled. It just seems like we just can't hold teams down defensively," Dunleavy said.

The Sixers magic number to clinch a postseason berth is just two but things are a little tougher than they seem since Philadelphia's final four regular season games are all on the road, against the Pacers, New Jersey, Milwaukee and Detroit.

The Sixers, however, could clinch the playoff spot tonight with a win over the powerful Pacers coupled with a loss by the Bucks.

The Nets, meanwhile, are playing out the string and coming off a 104-95 loss to New York on Wednesday.

Gerald Wallace, who missed the previous four games with a sore hamstring, had 21 points for the Nets, who were playing without star point guard Deron Williams (sore right calf) and also lost for the third straight time. Sundiata Gaines netted 18 points in the setback.

"I thought our second unit, some of our subs did a really good job against their bench and then we got back into the game," Nets head coach Avery Johnson said.

Williams has been listed as questionable for tonight's game.
