Raptors aim for rare winning streak over Jazz

Nov 12, 2012 - 3:52 PM (Sports Network) - The last time the Toronto Raptors won consecutive games against the Utah Jazz was back during the 2004-05 season.

Toronto will try for a rare winning streak in this series when it hosts the Jazz Monday at Air Canada Centre.

The Raptors have lost three in a row and fell to 1-5 on the season after a 93-83 home setback versus the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Andrea Bargnani had a game-high 23 points and DeMar DeRozan netted 19. Jose Calderon chipped in 14 points and handed out 11 assists, as the Raptors fell to 1-5 for a second time in three seasons. Toronto was 1-7 in 2010-11.

Toronto's worst start through the first seven games was 0-7 in 2005-06, when it lost its first nine contests.

"We looked like we fixed our first quarter problem," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "Our starters gave us excellent energy. But, our reserves came in and things started to snowball from there."

Toronto played without guards Kyle Lowry (ankle) and Landry Fields (wrist). Lowry is listed as doubtful and Fields is questionable for Monday. Alan Anderson started in place of Fields and is expected to miss Monday's game with a foot ailment.

Bargnani has scored 20-plus points in back-to-back games and has posted double figures in scoring in all six this season.

Utah is 0-4 on the road and will begin a four-game trek Monday against Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington.

The Jazz have won two of their last three games, including a 94-81 victory versus the Phoenix Suns Saturday in Salt Lake City. Al Jefferson recorded his fourth double-double in seven games, notching a season-high 27 points and 14 rebounds, and Paul Millsap had 18 points and 13 boards.

Jamaal Tinsley did not score, but had a game-best 14 assists for Utah.

"It always feels good to win a game," said Tinsley, who last had 10-plus assists in a game back in 2007. "It doesn't matter if I have two or three assists."

Jazz point guard Mo Williams did not play because of a strained right adductor and is questionable for Monday. Williams was acquired in the offseason for his distribution ability and will be replaced by Tinsley again if he's unable to go against the Raptors.

Utah, which was one of six teams that did not visit Toronto last year during the lockout-shortened season, had a 12-game winning streak in the series come to an end with a 111-106 loss in double overtime on Jan. 25 at home.

The Jazz are unbeaten in their last six trips north of the border.
