Jazz visit suddenly hot Celtics

Nov 14, 2012 - 3:54 PM (Sports Network) - Doc Rivers has experimented with his starting lineup through the first seven games of the season and hopes his current one will stick for the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics are 2-0 since making Jason Terry and Brandon Bass starters and will shoot for a third straight win Wednesday versus the Utah Jazz.

Boston acquired Terry, a former Sixth Man of the Year, to provide scoring off the bench and now he's playing alongside Bass, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo. In a 101-95 win at Chicago on Monday, Terry scored 13 points and Rondo ended with 20, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

Rondo, who leads the league with 12.9 assists per game, has been a distribution center with 10-plus assists in 31 straight games, the longest since John Stockton turned the trick in 37 games in a row from Feb. 27-Nov. 29, 1989. Rondo's current streak is the longest during a single season. Magic Johnson has the longest streak at 46 games from April 13, 1983-Feb. 28, 1984.

Bass and Garnett scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, and Pierce collected 10 points, six boards and five assists for the Celtics, who have won four of their last five games and shot 50.6 from the floor. The C's only had eight turnovers as well.

"I thought we executed extremely well," Rivers said. "Offensively it was some of our best ball movement."

Garnett passed 76ers great Allen Iverson (24,368) for 17th place on the all- time scoring list with 24,381 points. Knicks icon Patrick Ewing is next on the list with 24,815 points.

Utah kicked off its four-game road trip on the East Coast with a 140-133 win in triple overtime against the Toronto Raptors. The Jazz outscored Toronto, 15-8, in the final extra session to win for the third time in four tries.

Al Jefferson hit game-tying shots to send the game to overtime and then forced a second OT with another big shot. He scored 24 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in Utah's first road win of the season (1-4). The Jazz rallied from an 11-point hole in the fourth quarter and made 14-of-26 3-pointers.

"It took us a long time but we finally got it going," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin. "Guys did a great job of hanging in there, fighting and scratching. I told them that's what they have to do on the road to be successful."

Paul Millsap scored a season-high 34 points, while Mo Williams, who was nursing a strained adductor, made his return after sitting out Utah's win against the Suns. He posted a double-double with 17 points and 14 assists, but is questionable tonight with the same issue.

Randy Foye scored 20 points for the Jazz, who also will visit Philadelphia and Washington on current road swing. Utah avoided its first 0-5 start on the road since the 1987 campaign.

The Celtics have won three in a row and 10 of the last 15 meetings with the Jazz, losers in four straight trips to Beantown.
