Nets close out trek against Warriors

Nov 21, 2012 - 3:56 PM (Sports Network) - The Brooklyn Nets go for a winning three-game California trip on Wednesday when they take on the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena.

The Nets bested the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, but fell to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, 95-90.

Gerald Wallace played for the first time since opening night against the Lakers and only managed seven points. Brook Lopez led the way with 23 and Deron Williams chipped in 22 points and 10 assists.

"I thought our execution was good," said head coach Avery Johnson. "I think offensively, had we made a few more shots, we'd have been in better shape. I thought our defensive was really respectable."

Tuesday night was a big night for the Lakers with new head coach Mike D'Antoni debuting for his side. The Nets took a one-point lead into halftime, but only managed 33 points in the second half.

"Wish we would've had a few more shots fall in the fourth quarter," said Johnson.

The Warriors return home after a brief road trip to Oklahoma City and Dallas. They went 1-1 thanks to a gritty, 105-101 overtime win over the Mavericks on Monday.

Steph Curry had 20 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to get the Warriors their third win in the last four games.

"This was huge for us to win tonight and I was able to make plays for my team tonight," said Curry, who did tweak his ankle in the victory. "Everybody on our team had a part of this win and that's what good teams do."

The starting forwards did their part Monday night.

David Lee had 17 points and 19 rebounds in 43 minutes of action and rookie Harrison Barnes, who is stepping into a much larger role with his play of late, scored 20 to go along with 12 rebounds.

Golden State is 25th in the league in scoring defense, but head coach Mark Jackson thought that was the key to victory on Monday, despite allowing Mavericks' guard O.J. Mayo to go off for 11 points in overtime.

"We defended. We defended at a high level. We competed," he said.

Jackson's team sure did rebound.

Not only did the Warriors outrebound the Mavs, 62-43, but the 62 boards were the most for the team since Feb. 13, 2005 against the Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors, who play five of their next six at home, are 6-1 in their last seven at home against the Nets. Brooklyn has won three in a row against Golden State overall.
