Bobcats target momentum in meeting with Pistons
Feb 20, 2013 - 4:30 PM (Sports Network) - The Charlotte Bobcats snapped a seven-game road losing streak Tuesday night and will try to make it two in a row for the first time since November Wednesday when they host the Detroit Pistons. The Bobcats have won two of their last three, after Tuesday's win over the Orlando Magic, but the last time they put together consecutive wins was Nov. 19-21. Charlotte won its most recent home game, a 94-91 victory over an exhausted Boston Celtics team on Feb. 11.
The Bobcats buried the Magic early on with a 20-point halftime lead. They won each of the first two quarters by 10 points, then came away with a 105-92 victory.
"We came out really strong and played well throughout the entire game," guard Kemba Walker said. "They made a run, but we stuck with it. I want to see that. I want to see us, when things get tough, we get tougher."
Walker and Gerald Henderson paced the Bobcats with 24 points apiece. Henderson, who has scored in double figures in eight straight, added 10 rebounds, while Walker had seven assists, four boards and three steals.
Byron Mullens has continued his great play since returning Feb. 4 from injury. He contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds against Orlando and since his return to the lineup is averaging 18.1 ppg and 9.1 rpg.
The Pistons welcomed a familiar face back to Motown on Tuesday night as Tayshaun Prince and his Memphis Grizzlies visited The Palace at Auburn Hills.
Detroit scored 30 points in the first quarter, then only managed 30 over the next two quarters to fall, 105-91. Prince had only four points in his return in just under 20 minutes of action.
"It was definitely disappointing," said Pistons center Greg Monroe. "Obviously, it was a tough game for us. Especially with the start we had. We just lost the intensity we were playing with, the focus. We knew what we had to do coming into the game, we know how they play. They are an inside-out team, and we knew we had to limit their second chance points, whether it was turnovers or offensive rebounds. We didn't do a good job of that."
The Pistons surrendered 12 offensive rebounds and lost the battle on the glass, 32-23. They committed 17 turnovers which led to 26 Grizzlies points.
Brandon Knight and Jonas Jerebko led the Pistons with 13 points each. Jose Calderon scored 10 and that trio was the only one in double figures for Detroit, which allowed Memphis to shoot 56 percent from the field.
The Pistons will play a home-and-home series with the Indiana Pacers, starting on Friday.
The Bobcats won this season's only meeting with Detroit, a 108-101 overtime victory in Detroit on Jan. 6. The Pistons have won three in a row in Charlotte.
