Celtics seek revenge against Charlotte
Mar 16, 2013 - 1:58 PM (Sports Network) - The Charlotte Bobcats have lost six in a row on the road and will try to end that streak Saturday night when they visit the Boston Celtics, a team that will be in search of revenge. The Bobcats' last victory outside of Charlotte came on Feb. 19 in Orlando. It's not like they've been great at home either. The Bobcats bested these same Celtics on Tuesday, 100-74. That halted a 10-game losing streak for the Bobcats.
On that night, Paul Pierce sat out for the Celtics, but a win is a win and those come infrequently for this young Bobcats team, who own the worst record in the NBA.
They failed to make it two in a row on Friday night in Toronto against the Raptors. The Bobcats held a lead in the final frame, but only managed 10 points in the fourth quarter and lost, 92-78.
"We had a one-point lead in the fourth, but we couldn't make free throws and lost points there. We can't win if we only score 10 points in the fourth," Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap said. "They did a good job with us in the paint, but you just can't win in the NBA if you score 10 points in the fourth quarter."
The starting backcourt of Gerald Henderson and Kemba Walker played great. Henderson scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and picked up three steals. Walker finished with 20 points, four boards, four assists and three steals. The Bobcats amassed 14 steals for the night.
The Celtics snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 112-88 home victory over the Raptors.
It was milestone night for Boston's Big Two.
Kevin Garnett had 12 points on the night, but his fourth point moved him past Jerry West into sole possession of 15th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
"Someday I'll probably sit back and actually think about and it'll probably mean something, but the one word I just keep thinking about is that I'm flattered," Garnett said.
Paul Pierce netted 15 points and his 10th point inched him past Charles Barkley for 20th on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Pierce made a free-throw for his 11th point and that vaulted him by Allen Iverson for 10th on the league's all-time free-throws made list.
"I think I'm going to appreciate it because it's Charles Barkley," Pierce said. "You know what I'm saying? When you pass a guy like Barkley, one of the greatest players that ever played the game, it says a lot."
The Celtics are just 3 1/2 games behind the New York Knicks for first in the Atlantic Division. Boston is seventh in the East and is only a half-game out of the fifth seed.
Charlotte has taken two of three this season from the Celtics, but has lost seven of eight in Bean Town.
