Jazz try to get things right in meeting with 76ers

Mar 25, 2013 - 2:28 PM (Sports Network) - The Utah Jazz are doing their playoff chances no favors with their recent play.

The Jazz, who are tied for ninth in the Western Conference with the Dallas Mavericks, have lost four in a row and will try to get back in the postseason hunt when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.

Utah hasn't just lost four straight. The Jazz have dropped 12 of their last 15 just as the regular season is coming to an end. Utah is two games behind the Los Angeles Lakers for the final playoff spot in the west. The Jazz fell into a tie with the Mavericks, who bested them, in Dallas, 113-108 on Sunday.

"We can't get the games back that we lost," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin. "We need to learn lessons from it. But we have to find a way to get better."

The Mavs were eight clear, but the Jazz threw a frenetic charge at them late. Two layups and a free throw cut the margin to three points with 7.3 seconds left, but it wasn't enough to stop a nine-game road losing streak.

Seven Jazz players scored in double digits, led by 17 off the bench for Enes Kanter. Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson both had 15. Gordon Hayward, Randy Foye, Mo Williams and Alec Burks also cracked the 10-point mark.

The Jazz have eight of their last 12 at home.

The Sixers snapped a 15-game road losing streak on Sunday night when they knocked off the Sacramento Kings 117-103.

"Finally feels good to win on the road," head coach Doug Collins said. "I'm so happy with our guys, especially with the way they bounced back after that tough, tough loss in Denver. It shows a lot about our guys, at this stage of the season, to come out and fight."

The "tough, tough loss" Collins referred to was when the Sixers squandered a five-point lead with 14 seconds to lose to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.

Philly fell nine points behind on Sunday, but tied the score at the half. The Sixers were relentless in the third quarter, winning that frame by nine, then closing out the game to halt a two-game losing streak.

The Sixers got great contributions from their bench. Dorell Wright led Philadelphia with 22 points, followed by 20 from Lavoy Allen. Jrue Holiday notched 21 points and 10 rebounds.

The Sixers wrap up a four-game western trip on Monday, then return home to play the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. Philly has nine of its last 14 on the road.

The 76ers have won two straight against the Jazz, but have lost seven in a row in Salt Lake City.
