Wall brings Wizards to Magic Kingdom
Mar 29, 2013 - 2:31 PM (Sports Network) - John Wall and the Washington Wizards will pay a visit to the Orlando Magic Friday night at Amway Center. The Wizards had won three of four games until suffering a 103-80 blasting at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night. Wall, who was coming off a career-best 47-point performance versus Memphis on Monday, finished with 18 points and 12 assists.
Garrett Temple had 13 points and a career-high four steals for the Wizards.
Washington coach Randy Wittman was still pleased with the effort in defeat.
"It's not about your wins and losses," Wittman said. "It's about how you play. We went out tonight with eight guys and a lot of our key guys down and we battled."
Wall is averaging 24.3 ppg in his last 10 games and is shooting .512 from the floor in that time. The former No. 1 overall pick has five double-doubles in his previous 10 games.
Orlando is mired in an eight-game slide, which continued Wednesday in a 114-108 setback against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Tobias Harris had a team-high 29 points and grabbed nine boards, while Kyle O'Quinn registered a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Magic, who blew a 39-20 advantage after the first quarter.
"We started off well against them and they weren't going early," said Magic coach Jacque Vaughn. "But it's a matter of continuing to focus. A big lesson is a 48-minute game is a long time. A lot can happen just within the last five minutes of a game. Your focus needs to be heightened and you need to continue to play for 48 minutes."
Jameer Nelson finished with 13 points and 11 assists, and rookie Maurice Harkless scored 18 points.
Following Friday's home tilt with Washington, the Magic, who are 10-27 at Amway Center, will start a five-game road trip Saturday against Atlanta.
Orlando has lost two of three games against the Wizards this season, but is still a dominant 15-5 in the past 20 meetings. The Magic have won six straight and nine of 10 at home against Washington, which is averaging 102.7 ppg in this season's series.
