Living on a Prayer: Sixers vie to stay alive in visit to Bobcats
Apr 3, 2013 - 2:40 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers are clinging to faint playoff hopes, but will try to keep them alive Wednesday night when they visit the Charlotte Bobcats. The Sixers have won three straight and are six behind the Milwaukee Bucks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The schedule is not kind in their pursuit as the 76ers have seven of their last nine on the road, including four straight.
"Obviously, the clock is ticking, but as long as you keep winning, you keep giving yourself a chance," said Sixers coach Doug Collins. "I really like the way we're approaching things. Guys are really helping each other."
The Sixers last game was against the same Bobcats and Philadelphia came away with a 100-92 victory at home. Evan Turner led the way with 22 points, but Jrue Holiday took over a bit late to secure the win.
On Monday, the Sixers signed Holiday's older brother, Justin. He played for Idaho in the NBA Development League.
"I've been praying all season for someone to call him up and I'm just happy it was us," said baby brother.
The Bobcats have dropped three straight and did the Sixers no favors on Monday with a 131-102 loss in Milwaukee.
Charlotte shot 50.7 percent from the field against the Bucks, but Milwaukee was at 51 percent and 52 percent from 3-point range. The Bobcats committed 21 turnovers, which led to 31 Bucks points.
Six Bucks scored in double figures and all six had 15 points or more. The starting frontcourt for the Bobcats had 19 points, but Kemba Walker netted 27 and Gerald Henderson added 17.
Ben Gordon and Tyrus Thomas scored in double figures off the bench.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist missed the Bucks game for personal reasons.
The Sixers have won all three matchups this season against the Bobcats and six straight overall. They've won three in a row in Charlotte.
