Nets locked into fourth seed, host Wiz

(Sports Network) - The Brooklyn Nets blew an opportunity to move up the Eastern Conference standings, so now they're locked in at the No. 4 spot.

The Nets are scheduled to finish the regular season with two straight home games and will entertain the Washington Wizards Monday at Barclays Center.

Brooklyn closed out a three-game road trip with Sunday's 93-87 loss at Toronto and failed to capitalize off Indiana's setback at New York. The Pacers are two games ahead of the Nets with two play, but own the tiebreaker by virtue of being a division winner. Brooklyn swept the Pacers, 3-0, this season.

In the Nets' loss to the Raptors, Deron Williams poured in 30 points and handed out seven assists. Brook Lopez and Andray Blatche scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Nets, who had won four in a row and five of their last six games.

"Our guys just dug themselves too big a hole," said Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo. "In the second half we played hard, made shots, but you don't lose a game like that at the end. It got away from us in the first half."

Carlesimo's club is 24-15 at home and will host Detroit on Wednesday.

The Nets' first-round playoff opponent hasn't been set with Atlanta just a game ahead of Chicago for the fifth spot.

Washington hopes to put the brakes on a six-game road losing streak when it plays back-to-back road outings, starting with Monday's meeting in Brooklyn.

The Wizards, who are slated to end the season Wednesday at Chicago, dropped their fourth game in a row with Friday's 97-86 decision versus Philadelphia. John Wall scored a game-best 24 points and both Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin netted 10 points off the bench.

"Defensively the last three games haven't been very good," said Wizards coach Randy Wittman. "We have to find a way to close out the fourth quarter and we didn't do that tonight."

Washington has allowed three of its last four opponents to score at least 100 points.

Wall, meanwhile, is averaging 22.9 ppg since March 1 and joins Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as the only players who are averaging at least 22.0 points, 7.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game in that span.

The Wizards have lost two of three meetings with Brooklyn this season.
