Nuggets, Mavs complete home and home in Dallas
Nov 25, 2013 - 3:17 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Denver Nuggets have a chance at completing a home- and-home sweep of the Dallas Mavericks Monday, but they have to solve their road issues in order to pull it off.The Nuggets have lost two in a row on the road and are just 1-4 away from the Rocky Mountains this season. They handed the Mavericks a 102-100 loss on Saturday at the Pepsi Center, as Randy Foye made five 3-pointers to finish with 17 points. Foye's late 3-pointer gave the Nuggets a two-point lead late in the game and Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki missed two shots.
"We basically (wanted) to make him (Nowitzki) miss over a contested hand," said Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried, who had 18 points and 14 rebounds. "That was a great job as a team and we made sure they didn't get a second shot to get it to overtime."
Wilson Chandler, Nate Robinson, and Darrell Arthur each had 10 points for Denver, which won for the fifth straight time at home and is 5-2 in the last seven games overall since a disappointing 1-4 start.
Faried is averaging 13.6 points and 11.0 rebounds in his last seven games. He has pulled down 10 or more rebounds in six of his last seven contests.
The Nuggets will visit Minnesota on Wednesday to cap this quick trip.
Dallas is back at American Airlines Center, where it is 7-0 this season and has won eight straight dating back to last season.
In the recent loss at Denver, Nowitzki scored 27 points and Monta Ellis ended with 25 for the Mavericks, who had won four in a row and six of seven games. Nowitzki missed a potential game-tying jump shot in the final seconds.
"At the end of the game it's going to be hard to get clean, wide-open shots," said Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle. "Those two guys are our go-to guys (Nowitzki and Ellis) and we're going to live or die by those two making plays."
Vince Carter contributed 16 points off the bench and Jose Calderon added 11.
The Mavs will also host Golden State on their brief residency and hope to have a lead heading into the fourth quarter Monday. They are 8-0 this season when leading after three quarters (6-0 at home).
Dallas, which is averaging 106.4 ppg, has lost three of the last four meetings with Denver, which has lost 22 of its last 30 trips to Big D. The Nuggets are posting an average of 103.6 ppg and both teams are allowing more than 100 points per game this season.
