Spurs try to rebound in home tilt versus Hawks

Dec 2, 2013 - 3:34 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs hope to rebound from their first home loss of the season when they entertain the Atlanta Hawks Monday night from the AT&T Center.

The Spurs were 7-0 at home this season until dropping a 112-106 decision to the rival Houston Rockets on Saturday. Tony Parker returned to the court after missing a game with a sore ankle and led San Antonio with 27 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Tim Duncan had 20 points and grabbed eight boards for the Spurs, losers in two of three games since an 11-game win streak.

Marco Belinelli scored 18 points and Manu Ginobili ended with nine and 11 assists in the loss.

"Well it's a great lesson for us," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "When you play a good basketball team, you've got to come with passion, edge and aggressiveness for 48 minutes. We did that for a half, so I think it was a good lesson for our guys. They got embarrassed for a whole half and in the second half their aggressiveness and attention to detail was very good."

San Antonio was outrebounded by a 54-33 margin and sustained its first loss in the Alamo City since last April 17 versus Minnesota. In injury news for the Spurs, reserve center Boris Diaw is doubtful for Monday with a dislocated left middle finger.

Atlanta failed in its attempt for back-to-back wins with Saturday's 108-101 loss at Washington, one night after rallying to beat Dallas at home.

In the loss to the Wizards, Paul Millsap had a balanced effort with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Al Horford and Jeff Teague scored 16 and 15 points, respectively.

"I want to see how good we can be, but if you look at the conference, a lot of teams are kind of in the middle right now. We're trying to find ourselves as a team, trying to put it together. Hopefully we can get it going. I think we will," Horford said.

Cartier Martin had 12 points and both Shelvin Mack and DeMarre Carroll recorded 11 for the Hawks, who committed 17 turnovers for 18 Washington points and were without Kyle Korver (ribs) and Lou Williams (sore knee).

Korver is doubtful Monday and just shy of matching Dana Barros' NBA record for most consecutive games with a made 3-pointer at 89 games. Williams is recovering from knee surgery and is listed as probable against the Spurs.

The Hawks are 4-6 away from home and will start a four-game residency Wednesday versus the Clippers, Cavaliers, Thunder and Wizards.

Atlanta lost both encounters with San Antonio last season and is winless in the previous five meetings between the teams. The Spurs have a 24-4 record in the last 28 matchups with the Hawks, who have dropped 15 in a row and 18 of 19 trips to the Alamo City.
