The Pistons opened the month with four wins in a row, then dropped a 110-95 decision to the Miami Heat on Sunday. Heat star LeBron James had 24 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while Andre Drummond paced the Pistons with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
"They were really able to push the ball off our missed shots and get some easy baskets," Pistons head coach Maurice Cheeks said of the Heat.
Brandon Jennings finished with 19 points as well and Josh Smith added 13 in defeat. Jonas Jerebko (12), Greg Monroe (10), Kyle Singler (10) and Charlie Villanueva (10) were the other double-digit scorers for Detroit.
Detroit is 5-6 at The Palace this season and may not have guard Rodney Stuckey versus the Wolves. Stuckey (questionable) is bothered by left knee tendinitis and is averaging 15.4 points per game.
Drummond, meanwhile, continues to impress and is averaging 18.3 points and 17.5 rebounds in his past four games. He is one of the reasons why the Pistons are first in the NBA with 51.0 points in the paint. Drummond leads the East and is fourth in the league with 15 double-doubles.
Jennings is posting an average of 23.0 ppg in his previous three contests, while Smith is three games shy of 700 in his career.
Minnesota has dropped five of six games and suffered a 103-82 setback the last time out on Saturday versus the Heat. Kevin Martin led the way with 19 points and Nikola Pekovic added 18 and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who were without Kevin Love due to the death of his grandmother.
"We didn't play very tough tonight," Martin told NBA.com. "The champs showed us how it's done."
Corey Brewer chipped in 13 points for Minnesota, which shot just 29.3 percent and made only 5-of-22 3-pointers. The Heat scored 23 points off 19 Minnesota turnovers.
The T'Wolves are 3-7 on the road this season and took both meetings with Detroit in 2012-13. Minnesota has won six straight overall against the Pistons and three in a row at The Palace.
