Warriors, Nuggets rekindle playoff rivalry

Dec 23, 2013 - 3:50 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors will play eight of the next 10 games on the road, starting with Monday's matchup with the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

The Warriors are 6-9 as the visitor this season and went 2-1 on a recent homestand. They had dropped three of four games until Saturday's 102-83 victory over the Kobe Bryant-less Los Angeles Lakers and were led by David Lee's eighth double-double in row. Lee had a team-high 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and Steph Curry scored 18 points after posting at least 20 in a career-best 12 straight games.

"Definitely a much needed win. Especially after dropping the ball against a shorthanded Spurs team, we had to come out and assert ourselves early and take it from there," Curry said.

Golden State, which used a 21-4 run in the third quarter to distance itself, rebounded from a tough 104-102 loss to San Antonio on Thursday and received 17 points from Klay Thompson. Andrew Bogut pulled down 20 rebounds and netted 12 points versus the Lakers. Bogut has grabbed double-digit rebounds in a career- high-tying eight straight contests.

Warriors forward Andre Iguodala spent the 2012-13 campaign with the Nuggets and averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 assists and 5.3 rebounds in 80 games.

The Warriors will host the Los Angeles Clippers Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, Denver went 1-3 on its recent homestand and is coming off Saturday's 112-91 road loss to the Clippers.

Wilson Chandler scored 19 points, Timofey Mozgov had 15 and nine boards and Ty Lawson chipped in 13 points and six assists for the Nuggets, who shot 35.2 percent and lost forward Kenneth Faried after just three minutes of action with a sprained left ankle.

"We got thoroughly outplayed by a better team tonight. Our energy was bad. We're not in a good place right now," said Nuggets coach Brian Shaw.

Denver is 7-5 at home this season and took three of four regular season meetings with Golden State last season. The Warriors eliminated the Nuggets in six games in last season's playoffs, but have lost 12 of the past 16 matchups between the clubs.

Golden State is winless in three straight and 16 of 18 regular-season trips to the Pepsi Center.
