Pistons hope for more road success in Orlando
Dec 27, 2013 - 3:17 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Pistons have been a decent road team this season and will resume a three-game trip Friday against the Orlando Magic. The Pistons opened the jaunt with Monday's 115-92 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, as Josh Smith scored 25 points, Brandon Jennings added 21 with 13 assists and Andre Drummond chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Greg Monroe added 11 points and 11 boards for the Pistons, who were coming off double-digit home losses to the Bobcats and Rockets. They did win for the fourth time in the past seven tries.
"Our energy was there," Pistons head coach Maurice Cheeks said. "It was the way we wanted to play."
Detroit improved to 8-6 away from The Palace and is unbeaten in the last three road games. The Pistons, who have already beaten the likes of Indiana and Miami on the road this season, will close the trek Saturday at Washington.
Smith hopes to keep the away wins coming and is averaging 23.8 points per game in the last six. Jennings is posting averages of 20.8 points and 10.5 assists in the last four.
Orlando is 0-3 on a six-game homestand and fell to 5-9 in the Magic Kingdom with Monday's 103-98 loss to the New York Knicks.
Arron Afflalo led Orlando with 26 points and Glen Davis chipped in 20 for the Magic, losers in 11 of the past 13 games. The Magic almost rallied from 25 points down and trimmed the deficit to 84-83.
"They tightened up once they seen the lead completely evaporate," Afflalo said. "They did a good job of once we cut it to one or two, not allowing us to get over the hump."
The Magic will also host Atlanta and Golden State on this homestand, and split four meetings with Detroit a season ago. The Pistons have lost five of seven trips to Orlando.
