Red-hot Warriors return home to face Boston

Jan 10, 2014 - 3:39 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors failed in their bid to make NBA history and are back home to host the Boston Celtics Friday night at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors had a chance to become the first team in NBA history to sweep a seven-game road trip, but dropped a 102-98 decision at Brooklyn on Wednesday. They had won 10 in a row overall and were led by Steph Curry's 34 points. David Lee had 20 points and seven rebounds, while Klay Thompson added 14 for the Warriors, who shot 46.2 percent and committed 18 turnovers.

"Our visions were set on finishing out the road trip with a win," said Curry. "It's frustrating that we couldn't get it done, but it's one loss."

Golden State, which had won seven in a row on the road, will now play 11 of the next 15 games at Oracle Arena before heading into the All-Star break. The Warriors are 11-4 at home and unbeaten in three straight as the host.

Boston will resume its five-game western road trip and has lost six straight overall and nine of the last 10 games. It fell to 0-3 on the jaunt following Wednesday's 111-105 setback to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley scored 24 points apiece, while Jeff Green had a double-double of 15 points and 11 boards for Boston, which is winless in the last six road games and got 14 points from Brandon Bass.

"I thought the whole game, we played hard. I thought the first six minutes, we fumbled the ball around and that led to a lot of points for them in transition, but it wasn't out of effort," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. "I thought we were ready emotionally to compete. So, that's a positive. We've got to build on it. We've got to do it again and again and again."

The Celtics are 5-13 away from Beantown and will close the trip Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Boston and Golden State split two meetings a season ago, but the Celtics have won four of the past five contests in this series. The Warriors, though, have prevailed in seven of nine and 13 of the last 17 matchups in Oakland.
