Nuggets take winning streak to Utah
Jan 13, 2014 - 3:27 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Denver Nuggets have won five straight and will try to sustain that strong play Monday night when they visit EnergySolutions Arena to face the Utah Jazz. The Nuggets and Chicago Bulls have both won five in a row, but four of Denver's five victories came at home. They will visit the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday to complete this short road trip.
On Saturday, Randy Foye and Evan Fournier scored 18 points apiece to lead the Nuggets to a 120-94 victory over the Orlando Magic at the Pepsi Center.
Kenneth Faried had 17 points and nine rebounds and Ty Lawson and Quincy Miller scored 16 points apiece, while the latter had 11 rebounds. Timofey Mozgov and J.J. Hickson contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively.
"We had a slide of an eight game losing streak but we got focus and now we won five in a row and I hope we can keep it going," Nuggets guard Nate Robinson said.
The Jazz have dropped two of three, but the one win in the middle was a sensational one. They topped the Oklahoma City Thunder by 11 on Tuesday, but next time out, fell at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-102 on Friday.
Utah had no answer for Kyrie Irving, who finished with 25 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals.
"Obviously, Kyrie Irving got going. His team feeds off of him, and once he hit a couple of 3s and got to the line, that's when they went on a run," Jazz guard Trey Burke said.
Burke had 17 points and six assists for the Jazz, who had won three of their last four games coming in. Richard Jefferson led the way for Utah with 18 points.
Alec Burks (16), Enes Kanter (15) and Derrick Favors (12) also scored in double figures and Kanter pulled down 10 rebounds.
Gordon Hayward missed the Cleveland game with a strained left hip flexor, but is expected to play on Monday.
The Nuggets and Jazz have split a pair of meetings this season with the visitor prevailing each time. The Nuggets have lost eight of their last 12 in Salt Lake City.
