Pacers aim for 30th win with Kings in town

Jan 14, 2014 - 3:03 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Indiana Pacers don't always need Paul George to light it up every night because they have other options.

George and the Pacers will try to become the first team in the Eastern Conference with 30 wins when they continue a four-game homestand Tuesday versus the Sacramento Kings at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

San Antonio became the first team in the NBA to 30 wins Monday night.

The Pacers opened the homestand with Friday's 93-66 bashing of the Washington Wizards and were led by David West's game-high 20 points. George scored a season-low eight points on just 2-of-14 shooting, but grabbed a game-best 14 rebounds for the Pacers, who had a commanding 61-41 advantage on the glass. George is among the top 10 in scoring with 22.6 points per game.

Indiana also outscored the Wizards 38-18 in the paint

"You want to see a team come out and play as hard as any team you've ever seen on the defensive end, come out and watch our basketball team," Pacers head coach Frank Vogel said.

Indiana shot 44.6 percent (37-of-83) from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc. C.J. Watson and Roy Hibbert ended with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Lance Stephenson posted 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Pacers will also host New York and the Los Angeles Clippers on the stay, have won seven in a row in Indy and own an 18-1 record at home. They are 4-0 against the West at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and first in opponents' scoring at 87.9 points allowed.

Sacramento went 3-2 on a recent homestand and will start a six-game road trip Tuesday against Indiana, Minnesota, Memphis, Oklahoma City, New Orleans and Houston. It is only 4-9 away from Sleep Train Arena this season.

The Kings won their last three games on the homestand and demolished the Cleveland Cavaliers, 124-80, on Sunday. Isaiah Thomas scored a game-high 26 points and is averaging 20.9 ppg in the last 17 games -- all starts. DeMarcus Cousins posted his 10th straight double and had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Rudy Gay scored 20 points and both Derrick Williams and Jimmer Fredette added 13 for Sacramento, which is riding a season-high winning streak. The Kings had a 50-32 advantage in rebounds and scored 24 points off 15 Cleveland turnovers.

"We've been executing really well on the defensive end," said Kings forward Jason Thompson, who had eight points and a game-high 16 boards.

The Kings recorded season-highs in points (124), 3-pointers (15-of-30), largest lead in a game (46) and largest margin of victory (44). They have scored 100 or more points in 18 of the last 19 games, including the last 12.

Cousins is averaging 24.5 points and 13.5 rebounds during his double-double run, while Gay has shot 60 percent or better from the field in three straight and four of the last five games. Gay is averaging 20.5 ppg since joining the Kings in a trade with Toronto.

Sacramento and Indiana will play the first of two meetings this season and are scheduled to clash again Jan. 24 in California. Indiana swept a two-game series last season and has won four of the past six matchups between the teams.

The Kings and Pacers have split the last six meetings at Indiana. The Pacers lead the all-time series against the Kings, 42-35, including a 31-22 ledger in the Sacramento era.
