Clippers begin lengthy trip east in MSG

Jan 17, 2014 - 3:15 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will start a lengthy seven-game road trip Friday against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

They will also visit Indiana, Detroit, Charlotte, Chicago, Toronto and Milwaukee, and are 9-10 as the guest this season.

The Clippers have won four in a row and six of their last seven games, including Wednesday's hard-fought 129-127 victory versus the Dallas Mavericks in the finale of a perfect four-game homestand. J.J. Redick netted a career- high 33 points on 10-of-14 shooting to lead the way, while Matt Barnes and Blake Griffin scored 25 and 23 points, respectively.

Jamal Crawford ended with 16 points, Darren Collison, who is filling in for injured points guard Chris Paul (shoulder) had 13 and 10 assists and Jared Dudley ended with 10 points. DeAndre Jordan posted seven points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and has at least 10 boards in 17 straight games.

Los Angeles head coach Doc Rivers only had eight players dressed, but it didn't stop his team from keeping its win streak intact.

"What a defensive struggle, 129-127. It wasn't the game we planned, but it was the game we won," said Rivers. "I can't explain the game, we had J.J. on Dirk (Nowitzki) and it worked. We got stops, we switched everything and it worked."

Redick was 7-for-9 from 3-point range and the Clippers finished 17-for-34 from beyond the arc overall. L.A. made 50.6 percent for the game and erased a 17- point deficit with under five minutes to play.

New York is back at Madison Square Garden and will play eight in a row there versus the Clippers, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Charlotte, the Lakers, Boston, Cleveland and Miami. The Knicks have won three in a row at home and are 7-12 at MSG this season.

The Knicks, though, have dropped back-to-back games since a season-best five- game winning streak and suffered a 117-89 demolition at the hands of the mighty Indiana Pacers on Thursday from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Indiana scored 30 or more points in three of the four quarters, shot 50 percent from the field and was led by Lance Stephenson's 28 points. Paul George had 25 points for the Pacers, who scored 20 points off 12 turnovers and committed only six miscues for three New York points.

Carmelo Anthony led the visitors with 28 points, Tyson Chandler netted 13 to go with nine rebounds and both Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith chipped in 12 points for the Knicks.

"I don't think they're 30 points better than our team. We were awful," Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said.

Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire suffered a sprained ankle in the third quarter and did not return. Guard Tim Hardaway Jr. (wrist) and forward Kenyon Martin (ankle) both left the Indiana game as well. Stoudemire and Martin are not expected to play Friday versus the Clippers.

The Clippers defeated the Knicks, 93-80, on Nov. 27 at Staples Center, as Griffin, Jordan and Paul all scored 15 points. Anthony had a game-high 27 points in that one for New York, which has lost three straight and 12 of 17 games in this series.

Los Angeles has won four of the last six meetings at Madison Square Garden.
