Wizards welcome Philly to Washington

Jan 20, 2014 - 3:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia 76ers hope a Monday matinee against the Washington Wizards goes in their favor, as they resume a three-game road trip at the Verizon Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Sixers opened the trip with Saturday's 103-78 blowout at the hands of the Chicago Bulls. They shot just 35.1 percent for the game and committed 17 turnovers, leading to 14 Chicago points.

Thaddeus Young and James Anderson ended with 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Sixers, who have committed 64 turnovers in their last three games. Michael Carter-Williams had 10 points on 5-of-22 shooting.

"He has already played more games than he did all of last year at Syracuse. It is also hard to play against a physical team," Sixers coach Brett Brown said of his rookie guard. "This is a man's league, and you have to learn to play that way. It is a fantastic learning experience although a painful one."

Philadelphia has lost six of seven games since winning four in a row and has a lowly 5-15 record as the visitor. The 76ers will close the trip Wednesday at New York.

In injury news for Philly, Anderson (lower back) is questionable against the Wizards and guard Tony Wroten (ankle) is expected to miss Monday's game.

The Wizards had a three-game winning streak stopped with Saturday's 104-98 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

John Wall poured in 34 points and handed out six assists, Martell Webster chipped in 15 points and Nene added 14 for Washington, which fell to 5-6 in the new year and 2-1 on a five-game homestand.

"We got to do a better job playing defense," said Wall. "Josh Smith kind of got hot for a little bit. We didn't make free throws and they were killing us on the offensive boards so we give them a lot of credit for coming out and executing their gameplan."

The Wizards will end the homestand Wednesday versus Boston and own a 9-10 record in D.C. this season.

Washington and Philadelphia have split a pair of meetings this season with each holding serve as the visitor. The Sixers are just 3-6 in their last nine trips to the nation's capital.
