Wizards jump out to big lead, hold off Sixers

Jan 21, 2014 - 2:47 AM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Bradley Beal had 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the Washington Wizards to a 107-99 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

The Wizards shot 33.3 percent in the fourth quarter and the Sixers scored 13 straight points to pulled within eight with 2 1/2 minutes left.

Carter-Williams scored the first two points but checked out during the surge with the Sixers trailing by 16. Hawes made a 3-pointer and had five points in the run.

"I thought defensively we were decent in the second half," said Sixers coach Brett Brown. "We competed."

The Wizards went 5-of-6 from the foul line after that to stay in front and Trevor Ariza scored the last of his 13 points on a dunk to extend the lead from nine points to 11 in the waning moments.

"All I'm going to do is think about that in my sleep then go out there and play the right way, play the way we've been playing -- just go out and play basketball," said Wall. "That's all we can do."

Washington led 29-23 after the first quarter and was up by seven before Carter-Williams scored five straight points at the end of an 8-2 spurt to get the Sixers within one.
