Wolves, Jazz finish home-and-home in Salt Lake
Jan 21, 2014 - 2:23 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz will close out their home-and-home set Tuesday in Salt Lake City.The Timberwolves took the opener, 98-72, on Saturday behind a combined 45 points and 27 rebounds from Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Love. Pekovic had 27 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while Love ended with 18 points and 13 boards.
Ricky Rubio had six points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Timberwolves, who snapped a three-game skid.
"It's the way we have to play," Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said. "We know the next one, same team, at their place it's going to be tough. We have to come with the same energy."
Utah turned the ball over 16 times, leading to 28 Minnesota points. The T'Wolves also had a 60-42 rebounding advantage and outscored the Jazz by a 50-18 advantage in the paint.
The Wolves will play four straight on the road against Utah, Golden State, Portland and Chicago, and are 7-13 as the visitor.
Utah shot a miserable 28.8 percent and had one player score in double digits. Alec Burks ended with 18 points on 4-of-10 shooting, while Derrick Favors chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.
Trey Burke had nine points and Jeremy Evans added nine points as well to go along with 10 rebounds for the Jazz, who have rotated wins and losses over their last eight games.
The Jazz shot 8-of-39 in the opening half and were behind by as many as 36 points.
"We didn't have any pep to us, any energy," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "We settled for jump shots and they were going to the basket. Give them credit, they were the aggressive team tonight."
Utah will open a four-game homestand Tuesday versus Minnesota, Washington, Sacramento and Golden State, and is 8-11 in Salt Lake City.
The Jazz won all four meetings with Minnesota last season and had a five-game winning streak in this series come to an end Saturday. Utah is still 11-3 in the past 14 matchups with the Wolves, losers in seven straight and 13 of 15 trips to Salt Lake City.
