Clippers try to slow DeRozan, Raptors up north
Jan 25, 2014 - 2:56 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will try to be momentum stoppers once again when they resume a seven-game eastern swing Saturday against the Toronto Raptors. The Clippers slowed down the Chicago Bulls, 112-95, Friday night at the United Center thanks to Blake Griffin's 26 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. The Bulls had won three in a row and nine of 11 games entering the contest.
Jamal Crawford netted 19 points off the bench, J.J. Redick added 18 and Darren Collison chipped in 17 points for the Clippers, who moved to 7-3 since losing point guard Chris Paul to a shoulder injury and are 3-2 so far on the trip.
Los Angeles, which led 41-26 after the first quarter, made 10 of its first 11 3-pointers of the game before finishing 13-of-21 from beyond the arc. Redick was 4-of-7 from downtown and both Matt Barnes and Crawford made three. Barnes finished with 13 points.
"We got great shots and we made shots. We made everything in the first quarter," Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said.
The Clippers, who sit third in the NBA with 105.6 ppg, shot 53.9 percent (41- of-76) from the field and have won nine of their last 12 games. They are 12-12 as the visitor this season and will close out the trip Monday in Milwaukee.
Toronto is one of the top defensive teams (96.2 ppg) and ended a four-game road losing streak with Friday's 104-95 victory at Philadelphia, as DeMar DeRozan continued to shine with 34 points on 10-of-22 shooting.
DeRozan scored 40 points in the previous game, a 93-85 win over Dallas, and is averaging 30.5 ppg in his last four.
Philly native and Villanova product Kyle Lowry recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.
"As long as it is with a win I'll take," Lowry said of his first career triple-double. "I'll take all the congratulations and thanks from the teammates, as long as it came with a win for the team is all that matters."
John Salmons (12), Patrick Patterson (11) and Terrence Ross (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Raptors, winners in 11 of 16 games.
Toronto is 11-9 at Air Canada Centre, where it has won seven of its last eight games. The Raptors have won four in a row at home versus the Clippers and six of nine overall in this series.
