Final
Blazers ready for showdown with Warriors
Jan 26, 2014 - 3:14 PMVideo
The Blazers are scheduled to play five of their next seven games on the road and have a 15-7 record away from the Rose City. They have won two in a row and seven of their last nine games, including Saturday's 115-104 triumph over Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and six rebounds, Wesley Matthews added 18 points and six boards, and Robin Lopez chipped in 15 points and 10 boards for Portland, which made 48.4 percent from the field and had a 50-30 rebounding advantage. Love was held to 15 points and 13 boards.
Aldridge took center stage over Love and has now scored at least 20 points in 11 straight games, averaging 29.0 points and 12.9 rebounds in that time.
"I thought he just came out and played basketball. He didn't try to overdo it, he didn't try to do too much," Blazers guard Mo Williams said of Aldridge.
Williams and Damian Lillard scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Portland leads the NBA with 109.5 points per game, but is allowing 103.5 ppg on defense.
Golden State can score with the best of them and is posting an average of 104.0 ppg this season. It has played well on defense, too, allowing 99.9 ppg.
The Warriors have lost the first two installments of their five-game homestand and were handed a 121-120 defeat by Minnesota on Friday. Kevin Martin put the Timberwolves ahead for good on a jumper with 8.4 seconds to go and Harrison Barnes' shot at the buzzer was off the mark for Golden State.
"We got a great look, I'm not concerned about that," Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said.
Stephen Curry had 33 points and 15 assists, while David Lee added 23 points and seven boards for the Warriors, losers in five of seven games since a 10- game winning streak. The Warriors have a 12-7 home record and will also host Washington and the Los Angeles Clippers. Klay Thompson netted 18 points and Andre Iguodala ended with 16 in the loss.
Golden State made 55.1 percent (49-of-89) of its shots and lost for the first time since 2012 when making at least 55 percent or better from the field. The 49 field goals were a season high.
The Warriors are winless in three straight at home and will try to hold the high-scoring Blazers under 100 points. Golden State is 19-2 when doing that this season.
Curry will play in his 300th game Sunday and scored 22 points with 11 assists in a 113-101 loss to Portland on Nov. 23 this season. The Blazers snapped a three-game slide in this series with that win, but have lost 14 of the previous 17 matchups as the visitor.
