Orlando tries to halt road slide at New Orleans

Jan 26, 2014 - 3:28 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orlando Magic hope to put the brakes on a lengthy seven-game road losing streak when they visit the New Orleans Pelicans Sunday.

The Magic will also make stops in Detroit and Toronto on the upcoming trip and haven't prevailed as the guest since Dec. 16 at Chicago. They are just 3-18 on the road this season.

Orlando was able to end a two-game slide and win for just the second time in its last 14 games with Friday's 114-105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Amway Center. Tobias Harris had 28 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, while Arron Afflalo and Jameer Nelson netted 23 and 22 points, respectively.

Victor Oladipo ended with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for the Magic, who shot 48.1 percent and made 9-of-17 3-pointers. Nelson was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the win. The Magic, who overcame a 10-point deficit, outscored the Lakers during the third quarter by a 38-25 margin. The 38 points were the most scored in any quarter by Orlando this season.

"We just have to build on it," Oladipo said of the win.

New Orleans looks to halt a six-game home losing streak Sunday with Orlando in town, and posted a 103-101 victory at Detroit on Friday thanks to Eric Gordon's layup with 1.9 seconds remaining in the game.

"Eric has been in that situation before for us, and come through," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams.

Gordon had 15 points for the Pelicans, who outscored the Pistons, 32-21, in the final stanza after a 32-17 difference by Detroit in the third quarter. The Pistons used a 30-4 run in that third period.

Anthony Morrow scored a season-high 21 points, while Anthony Rivers added 15 and Anthony Davis chipped in 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for New Orleans, which shot 50.7 percent from the field and held on despite committing 21 turnovers for 31 Detroit points.

Pelicans guard/forward Tyreke Evans hasn't played since Jan. 21 and is questionable Sunday with an illness. He is averaging 12.8 ppg this season.

The Pelicans are 9-11 in the Big Easy and will visit Cleveland and Minnesota after hosting the Magic. The Magic defeated New Orleans, 110-90, back on Nov. 11 in central Florida, but the Pelicans have won six of nine in this series.

Orlando has lost four of five trips to the Crescent City.
