Red-hot Grizzlies visit Minnesota

Jan 31, 2014 - 3:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies look to stay on the winning path when they wrap up a three-game road trip Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.

The Grizzlies have won the first two portions of this trip against Portland and Sacramento, and are unbeaten in their last five games as the guest. They improved to 12-7 outside of Beale Street with Wednesday's 99-89 triumph against the Kings, as Mike Conley ended with 27 points and 10 assists.

"He's absolutely carried us," Memphis head coach Dave Joerger said of Conley. "He's an All-Star, no question."

The Western Conference coaches disagreed as Conley was passed over for a reserve spot on the team.

Conley is averaging 21.0 points per game in his last 11 and passed Rudy Gay for the franchise record for games played.

Zach Randolph had 18 points, Marc Gasol tallied 12 and Mike Miller netted 11 of the bench for Memphis, which has won four in a row overall and nine of its last 10 contests. The Grizzlies shot 54.7 percent for the game and have a 14-5 record since Dec. 21.

After the Grizzlies visit Minnesota, they will face Milwaukee at home on Saturday from FedExForum. The Grizzlies are 7-1 since Gasol returned from a knee injury. The were 10-13 without the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in the lineup.

The Grizzlies haven't reached 100 points in each of their last eight games.

Minnesota has won two in a row and five of its last six games, including Wednesday's 88-77 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Kevin Love ended with 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Kevin Martin and Dante Cunningham scored 18 and 12 points, respectively.

Cunningham's basket gave Minnesota its largest lead of the night at 75-62 with 9:58 to play in regulation. The Pelicans could get no closer than eight the rest of the way and were without Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday and Jason Smith.

"Shorthanded, they did a nice job of controlling it and making sure we didn't go on any runs. But we grinded," Wolves head coach Rick Adelman said. "It's a nice win."

Adelman's club moved above the .500 mark for the first time since November and is 13-8 in the Twin Cities this season. The T'Wolves are an impressive 16-3 when allowing less than 100 points.

The Wolves won the first of four meetings with Memphis by a 101-93 score on Dec. 15 thanks to Love's game-high 30 points. The Grizzlies had won 11 straight and 14 of the past 15 matchups with Minnesota.

Memphis has won five straight and six of its last seven at Minnesota. The two teams will meet again on March 24 and April 2.
