Hawks welcome Wolves to Atlanta

Feb 1, 2014 - 2:55 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Hawks picked up a resounding victory last time out and will try to keep the momentum going Saturday night when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Philips Arena.

The Hawks collected their second win in the last three and fourth in their last sixth Friday night. They trounced the Philadelphia 76ers, 125-99, at the Wells Fargo Center and now return to Atlanta for two straight.

Mike Scott and Elton Brand each scored 18 points off the bench to lead the Hawks. The Atlanta reserves combined for an astonishing 70 points.

"I just try to play hard every game. I just try to be one of the guys giving energy every night," said Scott.

DeMarre Carroll led the Atlanta starters with 13 points to go along with nine rebounds. Newly-minted All-Star Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague added 12 points apiece, with the latter adding eight assists in the win and the former posting a season-high six steals.

Kyle Korver extended his NBA record for most consecutive games with a made 3- pointer to 114 en route to 11 points. Lou Williams chipped in 12 points off the bench.

The Hawks shot 50 percent from the field and from long range, handed out 36 assists on 45 made field-goals, and forced 21 Philly turnovers, which led to 26 points.

The Timberwolves had a two-game winning streak snapped on Friday night when they fell at home to the Memphis Grizzlies, 94-90. Minnesota has still played good ball of late with five wins in its last seven.

Kevin Love scored a game-high 28 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, Kevin Martin scored 14 points with Jose Juan Barea and Dante Cunningham adding 12 points apiece for the Timberwolves. Ronny Turiaf pulled down 10 rebounds.

Minnesota held a one-point lead after three quarters after an awesome third- quarter performance. But Memphis was too much down the stretch, taking the final 12 minutes by five.

"We are disappointed, you know," Barea said. "It's a loss, so we're disappointed. It doesn't matter that we finished strong, it's still a loss. We've got to come out tomorrow and go from the get-go."

Minnesota center Nikola Pekovic missed his second straight game with bursitis in his right ankle. He is expected to be out for another few games.

The Wolves and Hawks split last season's two matchups with each defending their home turf. Atlanta has won 14 of the last 16 meetings between the two, including 10 in a row at home.
