Davis, Pelicans take down Hawks

Feb 6, 2014 - 5:11 AM New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Davis had 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 105-100 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Brian Roberts scored 19 points and Eric Gordon finished with 18 for the Pelicans, winners in five of their last seven games.

"We started the game off in a decent manner and then they took control of the game for a good segment into the third quarter, and then I just thought our defense picked up where we wanted it to. We got a lot of stops and scored," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams.

Paul Millsap scored 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, DeMarre Carroll had 22 points and seven boards and Jeff Teague finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks, who have dropped two straight.

"They made plays. We just didn't make any plays in the fourth quarter. They made some big plays," said Teague. "We just got stagnant on defense. Our intensity on defense just wasn't there. We didn't play with attention to detail in the last couple of plays."

Mike Scott's 3-pointer with 7:45 left gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 83-76. The Pelicans, though, used a 12-2 run to go up 88-85 with 4:53 to play.

The Hawks pulled within two, 88-86, after Millsap split a pair of free throws moments later, but a 10-2 burst stretched the Pelicans' lead to double digits.

Atlanta didn't go down without a fight as Scott buried a 3-pointer before a fastbreak layup to make it a two possession game. After Anthony Morrow missed a jumper, Millsap slammed one home to make it 98-95 with 39.6 seconds left.

Four straight points from the Pelicans made it a seven-point game and the Hawks never got closer than five the rest of the way.

New Orleans led 28-24 after 12 minutes, but the Hawks outscored the Pelicans 27-19 in the second to take a 51-47 lead into the break.

Atlanta's edge dwindled to one, 63-62, after a Roberts' runner, but a 12-7 swing made it 75-69 moments later. The Hawks took a 75-71 lead into the final frame.
